How AVHV and You Help Our Local Veterans
AVHV provides assistance to both serving military and honorably discharged veterans. Many times, our veterans just need a little help in terms of rent, food, school and other problems. Many are referred to us by the county Veteran Assistant Commissions for northern Illinois as well as the National Guard, American Legion and Veterans Affairs. We are a local, boots on the ground organization that helps them get through rough spots.
We screen applicants for Honorable Discharge / Active Service verification as well as Financial and Background checks. Our help is usually under $1,000 Maximum for a year. Our ability to help is only limited by your donations. We receive NO government assistance, which makes support from our generous supporters and fund raising events only source of funding..
All donations to AVHV are Tax Deductable to the fullest extent of the United States Tax Code. 501 (c) 19
The mission of American Veterans Helping Veterans is based on inherent human conditions. People need to have a sense of self worth in order to lead happy and productive lives. American Veterans Helping Veterans understands that Veterans often have difficulties re-establishing themselves in society due to injuries such as TBI and PTSD. This leads to unemployment and emotional distress. AVHV believes that by helping the Veteran improve their financial and medical well being positive steps can be taken toward their return to rich and fulfilling lives. It's the least we can after the sacrifices the Veterans and their Familes have made towards the preservation of our Freedoms.
